In August is the Graves' Disease 3rd Anniversary. I would like to gather as many groups as I can to take a Thyroid Coffee Break with us. I will be sending an invitation out to all the groups I can. It would have to be in Denver. And of course we will also be joined by those in spirit that always join us and can not get here. So, I guess what we need now is volunteers and donations. I can not do this alone.
All my Thyroid Coffee Breaks that I have had have been personally funded. Many I have gone to in Colorado and New Mexico that were held by others have been paid for by donations, silent auctions and selling my thyroid dolls. Thank you to all of you that have participated in these Thyroid Coffee Breaks. Your participation and generosity has paid my transportation and some of my other expenses to put on the Thyroid Coffee Break. I don't like to see anybody leave empty handed . I always have hand outs of information and door prizes. I try to make sure you not only get information but also some fun and smiles.
Maybe we can not have a really big get together This August...but maybe big enough to plan a big one for next year. I have been to many conventions and I know it takes time to plan and get the resources. But it all starts with volunteers. I also know how hard that is to come by. I have been in many organizations over the years. I have found that the President or officer's end up doing most of the work on their own as the volunteers are just not that into it. On the other hand When I was in the JayCee's everybody wanted to volunteer. You know what the difference was? One word.......
"Enthusiasm". The meetings were fun and we did things, we learned things. They taught me to speak in public, time management, write -up, organization and more. When you went to a convention you did not want to leave. Why they were fun. So I learned to make my "Meetings" fun. As most of you know I do not even like to use the word meeting. Mine are "Coffee Breaks". Now Coffee break sounds more like fun and something to look forward to than a meeting wouldn't you say? We will have fun. So if any of you are interested in a big "Thyroid Coffee Break"...being an individual or group or organization, can you let me know. Maybe we can get together and plan something in August for next year. Maybe even for next May for World Thyroid Awareness Day. Is there any body that would like to volunteer and if you do...what would you like to do? I found a volunteer has to like what they are volunteering to do. I am open to any and all suggestions. Maybe we can do this. It will just take some time and effort. And well a lot of commitment.
We will need: organizers, fund raisers, public relations, contacts, community resources, internet users and more I am sure. If you are interested you can leave me a message here or email me at [email protected]
