I thought long and hard about writing this article. This is a subject that bothers me every day for the past few years. Someday’s it bothers more than others. Not a day goes by that I do not notice. Some of you have asked me about it. Some of you have questioned me or corrected me. I do not have a problem with that. I miss correcting myself many times. So feel free to do so. Many of you have told me you have the same problem. Like me you put it down to just forgetfulness or just a mistake you made. Personally I think it happens more than any of us want to admit. We get so many crazy symptoms everyday. None of us want to add another one.

Don’t pay attention to the capital letters. My computer just does that. This is a list I have by my computer. What do they have in common? One of two things. #1.……when I put the word down it just does not look like I spelled it right . #2.…..I did not spell it right. I keep this list handy because I got tired of looking up the same words all the time. Some of them I can correct when I go over what I just wrote down. Some I have to actually look up. These are words I KNOW how to spell. Or I did at one time. Spelling was never a big problem for me. So, you can imagine (now this word goes on the list) how stupid I feel. If you see any of these words spelled wrong…well just ignore it. The younger generation seem to ignore it more as they do text and just think that is what I am doing. Not ! I do not text. But I bet I would be good at it.
Some of these words I spell backwards. I notice these right away. I have a son who is dyslexia. These words I have wrong everyday.
Of it is and then than not
It can get very embarrassing to ask an eight year old how to spell a word. I use to put it down to just typing to fast. That was my excuse. I knew it to. I have been typing for over 50 years. Ouch….that hurt to say. But, it is true.
Spelling as you see is a big problem with me. One I do not like to admit to. Lately I have noticed another problem I have with words. It took a three year old and a five year old to make me see I had another problem . This is even harder to admit to. I do not recognize words. This Summer two of my grandchildren were visiting. They love to have me read books to them. They love books like “Find Waldo”. So, I bought them other “Hidden Object” books. These books were all picture books. One day I decided to find them more challenging games. The three of us went on the computer and found some they liked. Now besides the picture games we found some where you have a list of words and you have to find the object. I thought this would be great for Jayden as he was trying to learn to spell.
I would read the word and they would try to find the object. Than something very strange happened. I would read a word and they would find it before I would. Some times they did not know what the object was and some times I did not know what the object was. This happen to me more times . We started with very simple games. You would think I would know all the object’s to find. Well, I didn’t. After they left for home I continued with harder games. I found it was good for my memory. Some times it is very hard for me, as there are common things I do not recognize. Just yesterday my husband caught me crying. I was sitting here and I did not know what a microphone was. Another time I did not know what a pyramid was. I did not only not know what they were but they did not look like they were spelled right to me.
Because of these “Little” things with words. I keep my list handy and now I play a “Hidden Object” game for an hour every morning. Not so much that I am a game person. Those of you that know me know I do not really like to play computer games. But, playing the game every morning keeps me a bit sharp I hope. I will not let a little thing like forgetfulness get to me. Or
