I think the doctors just guess and give their best estimate as to what path our TED or Thyroid disease will go. Some with TED might have it just burn it self out. But many of us have a real long journey and never look the same again. Some have to have surgery some not. Some have 1 or 2 and some of us have multiple eye surgery. I have had 9. Some have had more or less. AS in all parts of the Thyroid Disease we are all different. What works for you may not work for me. Some feel pretty good and can live a pretty normal life. Others are having a lot of pain and other problems. So even if we share information ...not all of it will help the other person. Yet it helps us understand this disease does not go by any book. The more you learn the more you read about what others go through the more you understand your journey will be different. We are all going in the same direction...but some of us just get a little side tracked. Some have to take the long way and some get to take the short cut. Some of us have to climb the mountain and some may get a helping hand . Some have to go it alone and some will have a lot of support. AS long as we understand this I think it will make the journey a bit easier. And it sure helps for those ahead of us to let us know what might be in our path. There are some ahead of us that have been on this journey for many years. We can learn a lot from them. They may be able to tell us a few things to help us along the way and make the journey a bit easier. But they can not tell us if we will get a detour or fall on the wayside. Nobody can tell us if we will go along and be lucky enough to go into remission and just feel good again thinking we just got a free ride.. When out of no where we hit a pot hole and our tires go flat and it starts to rain and we have to walk and we fall down. We start looking a mess and we are chilled to the bone, and we hurt all over. We are just miserable and nobody understands. Our path starts to get really rocky and harder and harder to walk on. So we look around and see people going in the same direction as we are and ask for advice. Some of it helps and some of it we just can not use. But we are greatful just the same that there are others going on this same journey that will stop a minute to give us advice Even though they may have a harder journey then we do. We soon realize our journey is much easier if it is shared. So we put out out hand and share what we have learned along the way. We now know none of us get a free ride for long. and if we get a free ride all the way to the end ...well we would be the lucky ones. But the lucky ones are far and few between.
