The most natural products are the best I have found. I am a past CNA and when working in care of the elderly Crisco is what we used. I was surprised to find that the nursing homes use Crisco. As I have always used it. It works.
Before washing hair I coat my hair in one of these:
olive oil mayonaise honey shortning
Leave on at least an hour. Over night is best. I wrap a towel around my head over a plastic bag in the day. At night I have a hair cover I use. Some of you may remember what our mother's or even some of used over our curlers at night. I then wash my hair with Baby shampoo or another mild shampoo. Sometimes I heat the oil oil just to warm and apply to my hair and then wrap in the plasic. Cheap Hot oil treatment that leaves hair shinny and soft.
After bathing I use a small amount of shortning as a moisturizer all over my body. Nursing homes use Crisco, believe it or not. So that is what I use. It absorbs quickly in the dry skin, no odor and immediate softness. When my mother had her restaurant and bar she had all the bartenders and dish washers use this. Better then any lotion we tried. Olive oil works good to. Mayo is good for the face. The odor quickly goes away. But my all time favorite is the Crisco. And it last forever. I keep in a facy jar in the bathroom labeled moisturizer. Everybody uses it. I like to wash my face with warm water and then rice with cold to close pores. I then apply my Crisco. The good thing about this is that a man does not feel funny using this moisturizer .
For dry eyes: I use my lubricating eye drops. Most any Brand is good. I just happen to use Bausch & Lomb Soothe XP w/ extra protection. I keep one by my computer and every room in my house as I lose the small bottle all the time. During the day I rinse out a warm wash cloth and
place over my face and breath. feels good on the eyes and feels good to breath trough it. Breath through the nose to get that dryness out. I do this a few times a day. Before a nap I make tea and when done with my tea I put mine and my husbands tea bag over my eyes and take a short rest or nap. At night I coat around my eyes with Vasiline. does not hurt to smooth it over the whole face either. I sometimes wear an eye mask to bed also. Lucky I have used most of these all my life just because I do live in a dry climate and my grandmothers and aunts had always used these. I am 65 and still have good skin. I rarely get a pimple.
As for dry mouth. I keep water handy even at night to sip from. I suck on hard candy too. But in the night it gets so bad I feel like I can't breath sometimes. Without taking a medication for it...well I have yet to come up with a solution. I know it is not from meds ...as I do not take any any more. So if you have some natural way that works let me know. I keep a humidifier in my room at night. I keep lot's of plants in my house. I even have a tomato and strawberry plant in my office. I also keep vases of water around the house and in my bed room. Why. Well because my grandmothers told me it takes the bad stuff out of the air for one thing and for another it puts moisture in the air. Hay it don't hurt...why not?
